Description The Town of Cary requires proofof full COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment for any new Town of Cary employees. The Town of Cary's Cultural Arts Education Program is looking for an enthusiastic art instructor to work in a dynamic environment, teaching teens and adults in visual art disciplines such as drawing, painting, and mixed media. Must instruct students in art processes and techniques that help students build skills, as well as integrating art history into lesson plans. Experience writing course descriptions is a plus. Must be available to teach some weekdays, especially during teen summer camps; or weekday evenings and nights; and one weekend a month. Number of hours vary throughout the year. Must be willing to teach at the Cary Arts Center, pop-up locations, The Hive in western Cary, and other Town community centers; and in the future, the Downtown Cary Park. Typical Tasks Provide learning opportunities that focus on the elements of artthrough a variety of processes and materials with art history integrated into the lesson plans; Propose class titles, descriptions, and supply lists for designated age groups, and submit by set deadlines; Teach at various community locations including within the Cary Arts Center, pop-up locations, community centers, Town parks, especially the Downtown Cary Park; Use age-appropriate activities, processes, techniques while delivering class content; Develop supply and materials lists within budgetary considerations; Assist in developingnew ideas for class programs that meet the needs of the Arts Education Program and the community; Be prepared to begin and complete instruction at the published class start and end times; Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization as defined by supervisor; Interact with parents, students, co-workers, and the public in a professional and courteous manner; Adhere to and enforce policies and procedures; Keep accurate records and submit requested information in a timely manner; Performs other job-related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of art and teaching methods; ability to meet the public effectively; ability to communicate effectively; ability to deal with the public in a firm but tactful manner; ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with others; ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and ability to acquire knowledge of policies, procedures and services of the facility, division, department, and Town. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Must have at least a bachelor's degree in art, art education, or equivalent experience ANDat least one year of experience teaching art. Must have knowledge of art history. Prefer experience teaching a variety of media such as colored pencil, pen and ink, charcoal, pastels, acrylic, oil, and watercolor; Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
