This job can be filled at the first or second level of the non-Engineer degreed engineering technologist job classification. Engineering Technologist I apply developing technical expertise to solve simple problems, and management skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of developing expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with some degree of independence. Engineering Technologist II applies technical expertise to solve more complex problems and management skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop deeper technical skills and the ability to work with an increasing degree of independence. The Procurement Engineering (PE) Support Engineering Technologist is a corporate Nuclear Engineering Department position that procurement engineering support to all Duke Energy nuclear, establishing Safety-Related & Augmented Quality Catalog IDs by providing technical and quality assurance requirements in support of procurement, receipt, dedication testing, and storage of plant components, parts, materials and services.This job can be filled at the first or second level of the non-Engineer degreed engineering technologist job classification. This position is preferably located at McGuire Nuclear Station (Huntersville, NC) with location at Harris Nuclear Plant (New Hill, NC) as an alternative option, however, other nuclear sites are acceptable options as well. The position interacts with nuclear site personnel (Management, Maintenance, Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.) for adjusting work priorities and schedules as it relates to PE Support activities and supporting emergent activities in a constructive and professional manner, including outages. This position reports directly to the PE Support Manager and must be capable of working under limited supervision and exercising good engineering judgment in performance of duties. This position may handle more complex projects or analysis in addition to completing non-routine projects with minimal oversight. Responsibilities

  • Perform various supply chain activities and support various engineering activities for the nuclear fleet, including, but not limited to: establishing technical and quality requirements for Safety-Related and Augmented Quality Catalog IDs and Contracts, development and update Bill of Materials (BOMs) for applicable items, reviewing engineering changes and drawings for technical and quality requirements; determining appropriate procurement and stocking strategies; and supporting fleet/site initiatives.
  • Resolve issues and non-conformances identified during receipt of Safety Related and Augmented Quality Items and services.
  • Ensure goods and services within their disciplines are technically correct, provided when needed, and obtained at the best price while meeting nuclear site needs and reducing total inventory.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge/understanding of applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements/guidance used in the nuclear industry in general and specifically procurement.
  • Provide cost-effective solutions to improve plant performance and maintain the plant's safety margins by maintaining and meeting design requirements, coordinating supporting activities, resolving equipment non-conformances, and ensuring the quality of documents provided.
  • Provide support for the Obsolescence and Critical Spares programs to find cost-effective solutions that help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient station operations/power generation.
  • Participate in the rotation of PE Support duty.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify problems outside the scope of typical responsibility and is able to independently organize and manage project schedules and interfaces.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation and sketches with some guidance.
    • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
    • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files. Basic/Required Qualifications: Nuclear Engineering Technologist I
      • Associate's degree in Engineering Technology
      • In lieu of degree, high school diploma/GED and four (4) years minimum of related experience. Nuclear Engineering Technologist II
        • Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering Technology
        • In lieu of degree, associates degree and two (2) years minimum of related experience. Additional Preferred Qualifications
          • Bachelor's Engineering Technology or other technical degree.
          • Previous Engineering Technologist experience supporting Duke Nuclear stations.
          • Working knowledge of power plant operations, including mechanical and electrical equipment.
          • Possess good interpersonal skills.
          • Demonstrated analyticaland decision-making skills.
          • Experience in the utility industry.
          • Experience and demonstrated written and oral communications skills, including the ability to present information, facilitate meetings and provide direction to others.
          • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, procedures, and other regulatory requirements and guidelines
          • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities
          • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
          • Basic knowledge of Consolidated Asset Suite (CAS)
          • Knowledge of basic SQL queries to support research and reports.
          • Understanding of basic principles of project management.
          • Good written and oral communication skills. Specific Requirements
            • Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
            • This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
            • Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
            • Occasional overnight travel. Working Conditions Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.
