Overview:Affordable Care, Inc. ("ACI") was founded in 1975 and today is America's largest dental support organization focused on tooth replacement services, with over 350 affiliated practices in 40 states. Headquartered in Research Triangle Park, the company's affiliated practices offer a range of tooth replacement services including dental implants, dentures and other related services. The company's unique, highly focused business model enables dentists to provide rapid, high-quality, low-price dental prostheses to over 400,000 patients annually.
Affordable Care is seeking a Controller and Director of Accounting, reporting to the Vice President Accounting, Tax & Treasury, who will be responsible to develop and lead the accounting team fostering accuracy, efficiency, expertise, collaboration and service. The Controller is responsible for the accounting and related operations of the company which includes the following key objectives:Responsibilities:Deliver high-quality financial information in a timely, accurate and transparent manner.

  • Manage all the daily aspects of accounting, billing, financial statements, general ledger, and revenue recognition.
  • Lead the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited to, internal and external monthly financial statements and annual audits.
    Drive continued improvement in financial management.
    • Set a high standard for the finance function and each of its processes.
    • Implement best practice process and systems in key accounting functions while developing and tracking functional KPIs in partnership with FP&A leadership (P2P, R2R, expense management, etc.).
    • Leverage experience with project management, system implementations, and organizational change to lead desired change within the company.
    • Evaluate and enhance the system of internal controls to ensure assets are appropriately protected.
      Serve as the technical accounting and reporting expert.
      • Provide exceptional knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) relevant to the company and modify current practices to adopt.
      • Develop and/or refine accounting practices to emulate that of a public company.
      • Deliver GAAP compliant financial information in a timely manner. Challenge current conventions with respect to R2R activities and duration.
      • Manage all aspects of the audit relationship.
      • Manage fixed assets and capital expenditure accounting and reporting.
      • Enthusiastically take on special projects and ad hoc reporting requirements of the business.
        Build and maintain a high performing team.
        • Develop a culture of service, performance and continuous improvement. Promote and reward initiative and teamwork.
        • Develop set of KPIs to help tell the story and demonstrate the function's collective ownership of performance.
        • Communicate regularly with entire team to keep apprised of upcoming issues and celebrate achievements.
        • Take decisive actions on necessary team member adjustments.
        • Actively participate in designing and implementing a culture of continuous improvement within the department and across the company.Qualifications:
          • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field; Master's degree is a plus
          • Proven leader with 8 to 10 years of experience in accounting
          • Experience in a retail, healthcare-focused retail, or franchise model organization and private equity environment
          • Public company experience with knowledge of internal control framework and Sarbanes Oxley a plus. IPO readiness experience a plus
          • Experience working in a high growth company, particularly one where both deNovo builds and affiliations have occurred
          • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) license required
          • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations
          • Attention to detail, basis towards action and unwavering ethical standards
          • Excellent computer skills; experience in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite; Access, database, or other system knowledge. Proficiency with accounting software and experience with a software system implementation. Great Plains experience is a plus
          • Demonstrated ability to work well with senior executives, as well as mentor/lead other team members
