SUMMARY: The Engineering Manager supervises a team of Engineers and/or Designers and provides technical leadership direction. The incumbent coordinates the team's activities to meet production and quality goals. The incumbent has full responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating technical assignments, ensuring that standards and procedures are adhered to, and recommending process improvements. The Engineering Manager plans approaches for team members working on tasks involving non-standard engineering issues. The incumbent also collaborates with peers and other departments to help minimize problems with workflow or changes that would impact the team and also provides to the team guidance on rules and regulations on technical matters pertaining to structural, civil and/or architectural engineering. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:* Lead, develop, and mentor Engineers and/or Designers, for continuous improvement of expertise, professional development, productive contributions and career path planning.* Serve as engineer of record for various engineering projects.* Exercise technical responsibility within areas of technical competence for sealing engineering work performed.* Contribute to new designs and techniques which are of material significance to solving problems.* Perform and supervise civil and structural analyses and designs using hand calculations, various Company vetted and approved software and other accepted methods.* Design and supervise production of modification, civil and site drawings and ensure quality standards are adhered to.* Implement and follow quality control procedures.* Generate required production or quality reports, analyze the information, and make recommendations.* Provide reporting on the performance of the team in accordance with formats provided by management; assist with improving those formats.* Provide leadership on major upgrade projects and answer site inquiries from internal and external customers.* Complete specialized assignments requiring complex calculations.* Assist with the selection of new design and analysis tools.* Keep abreast of new engineering and drafting technical methods and developments, innovating as opportunities arise and technology allows.* Prepare team members for potential assignments outside of area of expertise. OTHER:* Other duties as assigned SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:* Supervise and manage the performance of Engineers and/or Designers and provide technical direction and training to the staff.* Create strong collaborative team environment and demonstrate personnel management skills with creativity, foresight and mature judgment.* Recruit, develop and retain staff, partnering with Senior Management, Recruiting and Human Resources. This includes on-boarding and orientation for new hires.* Provide disciplined performance management for team. Define and communicate annual goals, perform formal and informal performance reviews, and ensure changes and updates are communicated in a timely and professional manner.* Proactively identify and resolve personnel issues in conjunction with Human Resources.* Coach team members on technical and professional performance. QUALIFICATIONS:* Detailed knowledge of applicable software and design methods.* Strong understanding of project delivery and technical disciplines focused within the team.* Able to recognize limitations in standard processes and seek creative solutions.* Able to identify process problems and develop solutions; highly detail oriented.* Ability to work with different disciplines, functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results* Strong follow-up skills; ability to organize applicable timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs* Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly, professionally and effectively* Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast paced environment* Strong track record of creating and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external customers and vendors.* Self-motivated; able to work both independently to complete tasks and respond to department requests and with others to utilize their resources and knowledge to identify high quality solutions* Basic understanding of a profit and loss statement and its component parts.* Proficient with computer software programs, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* Bachelor's degree in either Civil or Architectural Engineering or a related field required.* Master's degree in either Civil or Architectural Engineering, Management or a related field preferred.* Professional Engineer ("PE") license required.* Ability to become licensed as a PE in multiple states via reciprocity required.* Required experience includes at least one of the following:* Minimum of 8 years' experience with communication tower design and analysis;* Minimum of 8 years' experience with construction or field engineering of land development engineering; and/or* Minimum of 8 years of civil engineering experience.* National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveyors certification preferred.* Minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience preferred.* Working knowledge of TIA/EIA-222 code and other relevant specifications preferred.* Minimum of 5 years' experience with various AutoCAD programs preferred.* Active member of professional organization or technical society preferred. ENVIRONMENT: Approximately 95% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Approximately 5% travel may be required in support of the position's responsibilities. Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
