Job Description:

This contract position is responsible for providing assistance with analytical and wet chemistry testing for both technical service and implementation requests and in-house research activities at Cotton Incorporated. Duties include but are not limited to: providing quality and timely testing services, technique and instrument evaluations and maintenance, and quantitative and qualitative documentation of procedures and findings.Job Requirements:Core Functions: --- Perform tests on sample requests --- Write test results and enter into testing database --- Communicate with supervisor regarding testing results and issues related to laboratory equipment or supplies --- Perform routine instrument verification/diagnostics and data backup-- --- Perform general lab maintenance and cleaning, e.g. clean glassware for testing --- Promote a safe and effective workplace by upholding compliance with Cotton Incorporated safety and personnel policies; alerting laboratory management to unsafe conditions or practices Job Requirements: --- Bachelor's Degree in a science related field; textile or analytical chemistry degree strongly preferred --- 3+ years--- of experience in textile-related analytical chemistry and laboratory --- Understanding of analytical methodology and ability to perform test methods for textiles developed by AATCC, ASTM, and ISO --- Proficiency with laboratory instruments including spectroscopy, such as FT-IR and NIR; proficiency with ICP, KF, and UV-Vis, a plus --- Ability to learn new instrumentation software and procedures --- Ability to maintain precision and accuracy when performing gravimetric analysis and wet chemistry --- Ability to deliver accurate and concise information (oral and written) to other staff members and management --- Ability to juggle multiple requests and keep all appropriate parties informed of project status --- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, visitors, vendors, and other parties in a professional manner --- Strong organizational and documentation skills with strict attention to detail-- --- Ability to work with and protect confidential information --- Proficiency in Microsoft--- Office Suite --- This position requires domestic, local travel 0-5% of the time Working Conditions / Physical Demands:-- --- Occasional periods of high noise levels and temperatures up to 110--F --- Consistent exposure to and work with a wide variety of chemicals --- Involvement with and exposure to various equipment and instruments --- Frequent sitting, standing, bending, twisting, reaching, and occasional moderate to heavy lifting (up to 30 pounds) --- Use of eye and hearing protection as well as protective wear as required by chemical SDS --- Required personal protection devices to be worn including but not limited to: closed-toed shoes, safety glasses, lab coat, ear plugs, gloves, aprons, face shields, and goggles
