Save Job Job SavedParker LORD is looking for a Sr. Scientist II
within the Advanced Technology team in Cary, NC. This team of
scientists and technologists is focused on developing new
technologies for adhesives, sealants, coatings, and conductive
materials. This role is focused on longer term technology platform
projects for the business. This role is expected to generate
intellectual property on commercially relevant technologies to
support the technical and marketing strategies of the Parker LORD
APS Division. This role is in a laboratory setting and the
incumbent will be working alongside other scientists and engineers
in a safe, inclusive, and data driven environment.
- Technical lead on product development projects of medium to
high complexity. Successful projects would commercially launch and
meet customers' and manufacturing plants' expectations.
- Engage often with team members in business, manufacturing,
global regions, and technology.
- Communicate verbally and in writing regarding various topics to
external customers, management, manufacturing facilities, peers,
and stakeholders.
- Able to evaluate current chemical products and identify areas
of improvements regarding safety, quality, performance, or
cost.
- Follow the safety, ethics, and quality procedures for the
company and the department, while also leading their team to do the
same.
- Some travel is expected (typically less than 10%).
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of polymer materials, adhesives, and/or
coatings.
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to participate
effectively in cross-functional and global project teams.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in statistical methods and experimental design.
- Proficient across several business and technical software
packages.
- Have experience in laboratory practices and exercise an
excellent level of chemical laboratory safety awareness.
- Impact: Track record of completing medium complexity projects.
Leads high complexity projects or multiple projects of various
complexity. May also lead portions or a major project as a team
member. Failure to obtain goals would typically result in serious
project delays and considerable expenditure of resources.
Independently lead DFMEA. Leading a trial at a critical
customer.
- Technical Knowledge: Applies advanced technical principles,
theories, and concepts. Contributes to development of new
principles and concepts within Parker LORD. Advanced knowledge of
products/chemistry, industry, detailed customer application,
troubleshooting, failure analysis, or detailed value proposition
elements. A knowledge resource for their team. SME in one or more
subjects.
- Problem Solving: Track record of implementing technical
solutions to a wide range of highly complex problems. Solutions
should generate intellectual property (patents, trade secrets) for
Parker LORD. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practical, and
consistent with organization objectives. Advanced design and
execution of any set of parameters. Advanced data analysis, report
generation. Expert understanding and utilization of engineering
tools, methods, processes (FMEA, process audits, troubleshooting,
etc.)
- Independence / Discretion / Latitude: Works with limited
direction toward predetermined long-range goals and objectives.
Assignments are often self-initiated. Determine and pursue courses
of action necessary to obtain desired results.
- Liaison: Represents organization as prime technical contact on
projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant
technical matters often requiring coordination between
organizations. Coaches & mentors less experienced personnel in
technical development.
- Minimum Education & Work Experience: A degree in Chemistry,
Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or
similar. BS with 5 years of experience, MS with 4 years of
experience, or PhD with 0 years of experience. Preferred experience
in R&D of polymeric materials. Preferred experience supervising
or leading others.
