Position Summary: We are looking for a dynamic full-time Sustainability Associate to join our growing Sustainability team. This position will report to the Sustainability Manager. In this role you'll be supporting our ESG efforts by collecting and reporting on data, crafting policy and strategy, and providing sustainability expertise both to internal and external stakeholders. To be a successful Sustainability Associate, you should have a strong knowledge and passion of ESG frameworks and methodologies. You should be a proactive problem solver, ready to chase down solutions and discover new opportunities. You should have strong project management skills with a focus on executing on deliverables. Ultimately a top-notch Sustainability Associate is a sponge ready to soak up information across teams and departments with an ability to see all the parts through the lens of ESG. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with ESG reporting, including data collection and analysis, to be used in company reports, marketing, investor inquiries and annual GRESB assessments
  • Help shape long-term ESG strategy, including diversity, equity and inclusion goals, and net-zero carbon, water and waste targets
  • Identify material risks and opportunities in the company's ESG policies and devise strategies to improve
  • Research and make recommendations on new trends and technology, especially renewable energy, sustainable materials, and building automation
  • Conduct inspections at multifamily and commercial properties, and prepare reports recommending and prioritizing measures to improve properties' ESG performance and reduce resource consumption
  • Attend development meetings, to provide insight on sustainability and resiliency in the design of Link Apartments and commercial offices
  • Work with appropriate team leaders at least once per quarter to provide sustainability expertise
  • Collaborate with external partners, stakeholders, and government bodies, to further the ESG goals of Grubb Properties and enrich the communities in which the company operates The ideal candidate is someone who has the following:
    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in real estate, sustainability, energy, master planning, or similar preferred
    • Exceptional analytical skills with an ability to understand how the parts fit into the larger picture
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple concurrent projects
    • Ability to work with and take direction from multiple people of all levels
    • Expertise with project management and execution
    • Exceptional quantitative capabilities
    • Exceptional written communications skills
    • High proficiency with Excel preferred
    • Knowledge of ESG standards and methodologies, such as GRESB, SASB, GRI, and similar preferred
    • Knowledge of green building design and renewable energy technology preferred
    • Knowledge of life cycle assessment and/or carbon accounting preferred Work environment you should expect:
      • Location: This position works in office setting at our Charlotte, or Cary HQ.
      • In this position you will work under moderate supervision.
      • In this role you will frequently be using a PC and phone to communicate.
      • You will occasionally need to move about to coordinate work.
      • In this role you will be required to travel to offsite meetings, existing properties, and development/acquisition sites.
      • You must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
