Cary is seeking energetic, creative, and top-quality individuals at least 18 years of age who are enthusiastic about working with elementary-aged children to serve as Seasonal Camp Activity Specialists and Counselors. Candidates must be available to work an average of 30-40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday.Camp Counselors will have the responsibility of supervising and monitoring campers during programs, games, and field trips; assisting with carpool in the morning and afternoon; and completing end-of-day cleaning procedures. The pay range for this position is $13.50-$16.50.Activity Specialists will have the responsibility of creating and facilitating age-appropriate activities and programs for campers in grades K-5; purchasing and monitoring inventory for their programs; and driving a Town of Cary vehicle as needed. Some specialists focus on activities such as archery, canoeing, orienteering, and nature studies, drama, dance, arts and crafts, music, science, martial arts, and more. The pay range for this position is $16-$18.50.Employment for Summer Camp starts in May and runs through August. Applicants selected as Camp Staff are required to participate in general and site-specific training prior to camp.Camp locations will be Bond Park Community Center, Mills Park Elementary, and Middle Creek Community Center.This is a seasonal (May-August), non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours. - -Want to work with our camp programs but not sure if this is the right position for you? EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Manages the group to ensure a safe and healthy camp for all participants during all activities (classroom, gym, outside, bus/transportation, off site field trips).Uses group management skills to engage all children in daily activities.Develops age-appropriate recreational and educational activities to keep children active and help them develop skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.Facilitates activities that give children a sense of accomplishment that comes from mastering techniques, skills, and completing projects.Orders activity supplies and manages inventory.Sets up, takes down, and cooperates to sanitize/clean camp room and equipment daily. -Carries out behavior management procedures and handle camper emergencies.Assists with camp opening and closing.Operates morning/afternoon carpool on a rotating basis. -Performs other job-related tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
General knowledge of traditional camps; General knowledge of equipment and supplies required for camp operation; Good organizational and time management skills; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to acquire knowledge of Town of Cary policies, procedures, and services of the department; -Ability to maintain and establish effective working relationships with general public and with other staff; Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; Ability to exercise judgment in controlling the activities, behavior, and safety of camp attendees.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Must be at least 18 years old and have a proven ability to interact with youth.Requires high school diploma or GED.CPR and First-aid Certification preferred; training opportunities available. -Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment. -Activity Specialist position requires valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
