Job Description:

This contract position is responsible for assisting the Supervisor, Knitting Laboratory with setting up and completing a series of knitting projects on in-house knitting equipment at Cotton Incorporated. Duties include but are not limited to: developing samples, confirming specifications, mechanical pattern input, yarn creeling, setting up new fabric styles and making adjustments on circular and flatbed knitting equipment, and running/monitoring projects for fabric collections. Core Functions:Assist with planning and executing a series of projects on in-house circular and flatbed knitting machineryAssist in the development of samples, managing specifications, and implementing projectsOperate knitting machinery, perform style changes, assist with machine set-ups and overhaulsAssist in the research and development of new patterns as needed during project executionRecognize and alert supervisor of malfunctions; troubleshoot knitting defects and make adjustments as necessary to ensure high qualityContribute to the general maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of the Product Development LaboratoryComply with quality and safety rules and practicesAssist with other Product Development Laboratory projects as assigned Job Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Textiles or a technology/engineering related field, preferred; or equivalent work experience3+ years related [manufacturing] work experience with a textile company as a machine operatorExperience operating and executing projects on circular and flatbed knitting equipmentKnowledge of weft knitting principles and knit fabric construction, and operation and maintenance of weft knitting machinesAbility to identify and analyze knit fabric constructionsAbility to set up and change fabric styles on knitting machines (including but not limited to: Single Knit and Double Knit Step-jack machines, Single knit and Double knit Electronic machines, 3 End Fleece machine, Electronic sinker loop machine, Electronic V-bed sweater machines, Small diameter single knit sampling machines, yarn winding machine)Strong mechanical aptitude; ability to perform routine maintenance on knitting machines (change needles, sinkers, cleaning, etc.)Experience in knit fabric development with cotton or blends, a plusAbility to understand construction sheets, and keep detailed notes on processes, problems, and solutionsAbility to work within a team environment with minimal supervisionProfessional verbal and written communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office--- SuiteThis position requires domestic travel 0-5% of the time Working Conditions / Physical Demands: The Product Development Laboratory is a climate-controlled area with quiet to medium noise levels (due to active machinery) that present no extreme conditions; optional hearing protection providedThis position regularly works near moving mechanical partsInvolvement with and exposure to various equipment, chemicals, and instrumentsVarying levels of exposure to cotton dust may exist while performing the required elements of the jobThis position requires that the individual complete pulmonary function testing (PFT) both initially and follow-up testing as neededVaried working conditions in off-site locations due to travelRegularly required to use hands to type and grasp, with frequent standing, walking, and bending/twisting at the neck/waistRegularly required to push, pull, and reach above/below shoulder levelOccasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 60 poundsOccasionally required to ascend ladders with overhead reach to make machine adjustmentsFrequently required to have face-to-face and telephone interaction with internal staff and external contactsSpecific vision requirements include close vision, color vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focusOther Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required in other laboratories in the Research Center
